In the remote highlands of Santa Bárbara, Huehuetenango, twelve small-scale producers from the indigenous MAM community grow coffee on tiny family plots between 1,600 and 2,200 metres. Most lots are no larger than a hectare, often just a third, and many farmers still share a neighbour’s depulper to process their cherries.
Working alongside local coordinator Mario Recinos, these families carefully wash and dry each harvest on their own land. The extreme altitude and cool climate produce dense, syrupy coffees bursting with forest-fruit sweetness.
