Finca El Naranjo has belonged to the Moreira Latour family since 1920. Today, Jose Moreira – the youngest of five siblings and a trained agronomist – passionately carries on the tradition on his share of the land, nestled between the Fuego and Acatenango volcanoes in Acatenango.
Surrounded by protected forest and fed by five crystal-clear streams that power the farm’s own hydroelectric plant, the coffee is carefully washed on-site. Jose’s distinctive touch: he depulps the cherries one day after picking, taking advantage of the cool mountain nights to achieve a slow, even fermentation that brings out vibrant, complex flavors. After fermentation, everything dries slowly on sunny patios.
Beyond coffee, Jose produces fresh milk and cheese for the local community, creating steady jobs and income year-round. A beautiful example of family heritage, care for nature, and community support in every cup.
